Protect the Floor- Do not place rugs on the floor until two weeks after the finish has been applied. After two weeks, place tracking mats at exterior doors, in front of sinks, refrigerators, an in heavy traffic areas. Be aware that some rubber-backed rugs, foam-backed rugs and non-slip pads contain additives that may discolor the floor. Place felt pads on chairs and other furniture to prevent scratching. Never wax the base of chair legs. It is also recommended to use an appliance guard under your stove and refrigerator as these need to be periodically moved out for cleaning or repair. Pads and guards are available at Riverside Flooring.
Clean regularly- Dust mop, sweep and vacuum the floor with a bristle head vacuum on a regular basis. Spills and dirt may require more than just dust mopping. To thoroughly clean the floor, lightly mist floor with Bona Kemi or Wood Wise wood floor cleaner and wipe up. Both are available thru Riverside Flooring. We do not recommend the use of Murphy Oil Soap for hardwood floors.
Things To Remember- Some cleaners and polishes can damage wood finishes. Never us wax or silicone-base polish, paste wax, solvent-based cleaners or pine-based cleaners on your wood floor. Wax or polish can actually make the floor more difficult to clean and will create problems when the floor requires recoating.
Periodically Recoat- Your hardwood floor should be recoated when the original finish shows signs of wear, but before it has worn down to bare wood. Once worn to bare wood, the floor will stain easily and may require sanding. Contact Riverside Flooring when the floor begins showing signs of wear.
